Introduction

The inspiration behind photographing my daughter stems from a deep love and a desire to capture the fleeting moments of her childhood—she is beautiful, and knowing that she will only be 3 once drives me to preserve these precious memories. My approach during our photoshoots is playful and light-hearted; I encourage her natural, photogenic personality to shine through by being silly and letting her be herself. The emotions I felt were bittersweet, as I know she’s growing up fast, but these photos reflect my love for her and the time I intentionally spend bonding with her.

My daughter is a better version of me, and I am her role model, so it’s crucial that I lead by example. Her behavior reflects mine, so being a genuine and positive influence is incredibly important to me. During our photoshoots, when challenges arose, I made sure to check in with her, take breaks, and keep the experience enjoyable, often ending with ice cream and playtime. These photos are more than just pictures; they are a testament to our love, connection, and the importance of being a good role model as she continues to grow.

These photos beautifully capture my daughter's silliness and fun personality, reflecting the essence of who she is. This project, though personal, was an important step in my growth as a photographer. It challenged me to enhance my communication skills and practice patience, especially since getting a three-year-old to stand still for a photo is no small feat! I learned to embrace the moments as they unfolded, often capturing the best shots when she was occupied with something else.

Compared to the professional photos I’ve taken in the past, these images hold a special place in my heart because they represent my daughter—my better version. The feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive, with people loving the cute and silly expressions I was able to capture. The angles and perspectives I chose were particularly well-received, highlighting the joy and spontaneity of the moment.
